Suction Twist: Dirty Pairs – PIKSEL24

Suction Twist: Dirty Pairs

An interaction with a pneumatic hyper dimensional knot-grid working as a harmonica.

Two pipes are connected to the grid. Accordion-parts and air sensors are connected to the hookah, which makes it work both as a harmonica that can be played by more people at the same time and as an organ that affects the rest of the mechanical-technical system of pneumatics and light.

Breath controlled synthesizer and air pressure from fans and electromagnetic valves activate a grid of old accordion reeds and loudspeakers, evoking movements in the materials creating a drone-like altering airy music.

Erin Sexton (b. 1982) is a Canadian artist and radioamatør based in a dome in the forest near Oslo. Her sculptures and installations involve found objects, hidden forces, sci-fi narratives, everyday materials, and MacGyver-esque techniques. She holds a MFA from the Art Academy in Bergen. Psychedelic and emancipatory, her work explores alternate paradigms, strange topologies, soft apocalyptics, and metaphysical technologies. She tries to dissolve boundaries and subvert hierarchies, often using absurdist humour as a tactic.
