Building a Network of Free/Libre Technology in Electronic Art
Open Free Festivals (OFF) is a dynamic network of festivals and laboratories that promote electronic art using free and open-source technologies. Launched with a foundational meeting in Linz in 2021, OFF gathers annually, with this year’s gathering at Piksel in Bergen, where the network will discuss its future and engage with local artists and audiences.
OFF’s goals include establishing interconnected, resource-sharing spaces like IoT galleries, fostering political and artistic collaboration through free technologies, amplifying each other’s events, and supporting artists with fees and sustainable infrastructure. The network emphasizes creating new economic models for artworks, reducing environmental impact, and strategizing EU funding approaches to strengthen its free technology movement. With collaborative tools and shared resources, OFF seeks to redefine the landscape of electronic art and empower communities globally.
